This website was created and is maintained by Andy Greenwood a professional member of the Arboricultural Association currently working at Streets Ahead.
This site is in response to requests for an updated version of the mothballed Sheffield Tree Map project.
For those interested, the development of this website involved the utilization of the following Javascript libraries:
Note: The Data section is still a work in progress...
This section shows a breakdown of street trees by species, genus and family for the overall city, as well as the various electoral wards.
The planting seasons show the trees planted during the Streets Ahead contract from between the 1st of October through to the end of March for the selected years.
Thumbs up to Christine King, member of the Sheffield Street Tree Partnership who is assisting with data cleanup and analysis.
The Map displays the location and approximate measures for all street trees captured under Streets Ahead.
The map data will be regularily updated and was last refreshed on 05/04/2024.
The map can be filtered to display trees by Genus and Family and the color variations help visualise the distribution of tree types across various parts of the city.
A Planting Year filter has been added to help local Tree Wardens monitor establishing trees.
The Native and Naturalised catagories listed under the Provenace filter currently includes cultivars of those trees and (nativars).
The Special Value filter is a work in progress and currently only returns a small number of heritage sites. Some war memorial trees have been included and eventaully trees with botanical or local interest will be added.
Each tree is currently assigned a location using Mapbox Geocoding and there are some inaccuracies with the returned property numbers.
Tree Wardens who use the map and wish to notify Streets Ahead over concerns with certain trees, please include the ID from the Tree Information panel.
Please be aware that not every roadside tree is mapped under Streets Ahead. This can be confusing in more rural areas!
